04. అర్జున ఉవాచ
అపరం భవతో జన్మ పరం జన్మ వివస్వత: |
కథమేతద్ విజానీయాం త్వమాదౌ ప్రోక్తవానితి ||
🌷. తాత్పర్యం :
అర్జునుడు పలికెను : సూర్యదేవుడైన వివస్వానుడు జన్మచే నీకన్నను పూర్వుడు. అట్టి యెడ ఆదిలో నీవీ జ్ఞానమును అతనికి ఉపదేశించితివనుటను నేనెట్లు అర్థము చేసికొనగలును?
🌷. భాష్యము :
అర్జునుడు శ్రీకృష్ణభగవానుడు పరమభక్తుడు. అట్టి యెడ శ్రీకృష్ణుని వచనములను అతడు నమ్మకుండుట ఎట్లు సంభవించును? వాస్తవమేననగా అర్జునుడు ఇచ్చట తన కొరకు గాక భగవానుని యందు నమ్మకము లేనివారి కొరకు లేదా శ్రీకృష్ణుడు దేవదేవుడనెడి విషయమును అంగీకరింపని దానప్రవృత్తి కలవారి కొరకు ప్రశ్నించుచున్నాడు. అనగా వారి కొరకే అర్జునుడు శ్రీకృష్ణభగవానుని గూర్చి ఏమియును తెలియనివాని వలె ఈ విషయమును విచారణ కావించుచున్నాడు.
దశమాధ్యాయమున విదితము కానున్నట్లు శ్రీకృష్ణుడు సమస్తమునకు మూలమైన భగవానుడనియు మరియు పరతత్త్వపు చరమానుభవమనియు అర్జునుడు సంపూర్ణముగా నెరిగియుండెను. అయినను ఆ దేవదేవుడు దేవకీదేవి తనయునిగా ధరత్రిపై అవతరించెను. అట్టి యెడ అతడు నిత్యుడైన ఆదిపురుషునిగా మరియు దేవదేవునిగా నిలిచియుండుట ఎట్లు సాధ్యమయ్యెనో సామాన్యమానవునకు బోధపడని విషయము. క
నుక ఆ విషయమును విశదపరచుటకే అర్జునుడు శ్రీకృష్ణుని ఈ ప్రశ్నను అడిగియుండెను. తద్ద్వారా శ్రీకృష్ణుడే ఈ విషయమును గూర్చి ప్రామాణికముగా పలుకగలడని అర్జునుడు భావించెను. శ్రీకృష్ణుడు పరమప్రామాణికుడు అనెడి సత్యమును ఈనాడే గాక అనంతకాలము నుండియు సమస్త ప్రపంచము ఆమోదించినది.
కేవలము దానవులే అతనిని తిరస్కరింతురు. సర్వులచే శ్రీకృష్ణుడు ప్రామణికునిగా అంగీకరింపబడినందున అర్జునుడు ఈ ప్రశ్నను అతని ముందుంచుచున్నాడు. తద్ద్వార దానవప్రవృత్తి కలవారిచే వివరింపబడుటకు బదులు కృష్ణుడు తనను గూర్చి తానే వివరించుటకు అవకాశము కలుగగలదు. అట్టి దానవ ప్రవృత్తి గల వారు దానవస్వభావులైన తమ అనుయాయులు నిమిత్తమై సదా శ్రీకృష్ణుని గూర్చి వక్రభాష్యము కావింతురు. కాని వాస్తవమునకు ప్రతివారును తమ శ్రేయస్సు కొరకై కృష్ణ సంబంధ విజ్ఞానమును ఎరుగవలసి యున్నది.

04. arjuna uvāca
aparaṁ bhavato janma paraṁ janma vivasvataḥ
katham etad vijānīyāṁ tvam ādau proktavān iti
🌷 Translation :
Arjuna said: The sun-god Vivasvān is senior by birth to You. How am I to understand that in the beginning You instructed this science to him?
🌷 Purport :
Arjuna is an accepted devotee of the Lord, so how could he not believe Kṛṣṇa’s words? The fact is that Arjuna is not inquiring for himself but for those who do not believe in the Supreme Personality of Godhead or for the demons who do not like the idea that Kṛṣṇa should be accepted as the Supreme Personality of Godhead; for them only Arjuna inquires on this point, as if he were himself not aware of the Personality of Godhead, or Kṛṣṇa.
As it will be evident from the Tenth Chapter, Arjuna knew perfectly well that Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the fountainhead of everything and the last word in transcendence. Of course, Kṛṣṇa also appeared as the son of Devakī on this earth. How Kṛṣṇa remained the same Supreme Personality of Godhead, the eternal original person, is very difficult for an ordinary man to understand.
Therefore, to clarify this point, Arjuna put this question before Kṛṣṇa so that He Himself could speak authoritatively. That Kṛṣṇa is the supreme authority is accepted by the whole world, not only at present but from time immemorial, and the demons alone reject Him. Anyway, since Kṛṣṇa is the authority accepted by all, Arjuna put this question before Him in order that Kṛṣṇa would describe Himself without being depicted by the demons, who always try to distort Him in a way understandable to the demons and their followers. It is necessary that everyone, for his own interest, know the science of Kṛṣṇa.
