21. యద్ యదాచరతి శ్రేష్ఠస్తత్తదేవేతరో జన: |
స యత్ప్రమాణం కురుతే లోకస్తదనువర్తతే ||
🌷. తాత్పర్యం :
మహానియుడైన వ్యక్తి ఎట్టి కార్యములను చేయునో వానిని సామాన్యజనులు అనుసరింతురు. తన ఆదర్శప్రాయ కర్మము ద్వారా దేనిని అతడు ప్రమాణముగా నిర్ణయించునో దానినే లోకమంతయు అనుసరించును.
🌷. భాష్యము :
స్వీయాచరణము ద్వారా జనులకు భోధ చేయగల నాయకుడు సామాన్యజనులకు సర్వదా అవసరము. నాయకుడే స్వయముగా ధూమపానము చేయువాడైనచో ధూమపానము చేయవద్దని జనులకు భోధను చేయలేడు. విద్యను భోధించుటకు పూర్వమే గురువు చక్కని నడవడిక అలవరచుకొనవలెనని శ్రీచైతన్యమహాప్రభువు తెలిపిరి. ఆ విధముగా చేయువాడు ఆచార్యుడు లేక ఉత్తమగురువని పిలువబడును.
కనుక సామాన్యజనులకు భోధించుట కొరకై గురువైనవాడు శాస్త్రనియమములను చక్కగా పాటింపవలెను అంతియేగాక శాస్త్రనియములకు విరుద్ధములైన నియమములను అతడెన్నడును తయారు చేయరాదు. మనుసంహిత వంటి పలు గ్రంథములు మానవాళి అనుసరించుటకు ప్రామాణిక గ్రంథములుగా పరిగణింపబడినవి. నాయకుడైనవాని భోధలు అట్టి శాస్త్రనియమములపై ఆధారపడియుండవలెను. తన ఉన్నతిని వాంచించువాడు మహాత్ములైనవారు ఆచరించు ప్రామాణిక నియమములను చక్కగా పాటింపవలెను.
మహాభక్తుల మార్గము అనుసరనీయమనియు మరియు ఆత్మానుభవమార్గమున పురోగతికి అదియే సరియైన విధానమనియు శ్రీమద్భాగవతము సైతము ద్రువీకరింపచు చున్నది. దేశమనేలెడి రాజు, జన్మనొసగిన తండ్రి, పాటశాల యందు విద్య నేర్పెడి ఉపాధ్యుయుడు జనసామన్యమునకు నాయకుల వంటివారు. తమపై ఆధారపడిన వారి యెడ అట్టి సహజనాయకులు గొప్ప బాధ్యతను కలిగియున్నారు. కనకనే నీతి మరియు తత్త్వసూత్రములకు సంబంధించిన ప్రామాణిక గ్రంథములందు వారు నిపుణులై యుండవలెను.

🌴 Chapter 3 - Karma Yoga - 21 🌴
21. yad yad ācarati śreṣṭhas tat tad evetaro janaḥ
sa yat pramāṇaṁ kurute lokas tad anuvartate
🌷Translation :
Whatever action a great man performs, common men follow. And whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues.
🌷 Purport :
People in general always require a leader who can teach the public by practical behavior. A leader cannot teach the public to stop smoking if he himself smokes. Lord Caitanya said that a teacher should behave properly before he begins teaching.
One who teaches in that way is called ācārya, or the ideal teacher. Therefore, a teacher must follow the principles of śāstra (scripture) to teach the common man. The teacher cannot manufacture rules against the principles of revealed scriptures. The revealed scriptures, like Manu-saṁhitā and similar others, are considered the standard books to be followed by human society. Thus the leader’s teaching should be based on the principles of such standard śāstras. One who desires to improve himself must follow the standard rules as they are practiced by the great teachers.
The Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam also affirms that one should follow in the footsteps of great devotees, and that is the way of progress on the path of spiritual realization. The king or the executive head of a state, the father and the schoolteacher are all considered to be natural leaders of the innocent people in general. All such natural leaders have a great responsibility to their dependents; therefore they must be conversant with standard books of moral and spiritual codes.
