05. ఆశాస్త్రవిహితం ఘోరం తప్యన్తే యే తపో జనా: |
దమ్భాహంకారసంయుక్తా: కామరాగబలాన్వితా: ||
06. కర్షయన్త: శరీరస్థం భూతగ్రామమచేతస: |
మాం చైవాన్త:శరీరస్థం తాన్ విద్ధ్యాసురనిశ్చయాన్ ||
🌷. తాత్పర్యం :
శాస్త్రవిహితములు కానటువంటి తీవ్రమగు తపస్సులను దంభాహంకారములతో ఒనరించువారును, కామరాగములచే ప్రేరేపింపబడినవారును, అచేతసులై దేహమును మరియు దేహమునందున్న పరమాత్మను కూడా కష్టపెట్టువారును అగువారలు అసురులుగా తెలియబడుదురు.
🌷. భాష్యము :
శాస్త్రములందు తెలియజేయనటువంటి తపస్సులను, నిష్ఠలను సృష్టించువారు పెక్కురు కలరు. ఉదాహరణకు న్యునమైనటువంటి రాజకీయ ప్రయోజనార్థమై ఒనరించు ఉపవాసములు శాస్త్రమునందు తెలుపబడలేదు.
ఉపవాసమనునది సాంఘిక, రాజకీయ ప్రయోజనముల కొరకు గాక ఆద్యాత్మికోన్నతి కొరకే శాస్త్రమునందు ఉపదేశింపబడినది. భగవద్గీత ననుసరించి అట్టి తపస్సుల నొనరించినవారు నిక్కముగా ఆసురస్వభావము కలవారే.
అట్టివారి కర్మలు సదా అశాస్త్రవిహితములై, జనులకు హితకరములు కాకుండును. వాస్తవమునకు వారు ఆ కార్యములను గర్వము, మిథ్యాహంకారము, కామము, ఇంద్రియభోగముల యెడ ఆసక్తితోనే ఆచరింతురు. అట్టి కార్యముల వలన దేహము నేర్పరచెడి పంచభూతములేగాక, దేహమునందుండెడి పరమాత్మయు కలతనొందుదురు.
అంతియేగాక రాజకీయ ప్రయోజనార్థమై ఒనరింపబడెడి అట్టి తపస్సు లేదా ఉపావసములు ఇతరులను సైతము నిక్కముగా కలత నొందించును. అట్టి తపస్సులు వేదవాజ్మయమున తెలుపబడలేదు. అసురప్రవృత్తి గలవారు ఆ విధానము ద్వారా శత్రువుని గాని, ఎదుటి పక్షమును గాని బలవంతముగా తమ కోరికకు లొంగునట్లుగా చేసికొందుమని తలచుచుందురు.
కొన్నిమార్లు అట్టి తపస్సు ద్వారా మరణము సైతము సంభవించుచుండును. ఈ కార్యములను శ్రీకృష్ణభగవానుడు ఆమోదించుట లేదు. ఆ కార్యములందు నియుక్తులైనవారు దానవులని అతడు వర్ణించినాడు.

05. aśāstra-vihitaṁ ghoraṁ
tapyante ye tapo janāḥ
dambhāhaṅkāra-saṁyuktāḥ
kāma-rāga-balānvitāḥ
06. karṣayantaḥ śarīra-sthaṁ
bhūta-grāmam acetasaḥ
māṁ caivāntaḥ śarīra-sthaṁ
tān viddhy āsura-niścayān
🌷 Translation :
Those who undergo severe austerities and penances not recommended in the scriptures, performing them out of pride and egoism, who are impelled by lust and attachment, who are foolish and who torture the material elements of the body as well as the Supersoul dwelling within, are to be known as demons.
🌹 Purport :
There are persons who manufacture modes of austerity and penance which are not mentioned in the scriptural injunctions. For instance, fasting for some ulterior purpose, such as to promote a purely political end, is not mentioned in the scriptural directions.
The scriptures recommend fasting for spiritual advancement, not for some political end or social purpose. Persons who take to such austerities are, according to Bhagavad-gītā, certainly demoniac. Their acts are against the scriptural injunctions and are not beneficial for the people in general. Actually, they act out of pride, false ego, lust and attachment for material enjoyment.
By such activities, not only is the combination of material elements of which the body is constructed disturbed, but also the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself living within the body. Such unauthorized fasting or austerities for some political end are certainly very disturbing to others. They are not mentioned in the Vedic literature.
A demoniac person may think that he can force his enemy or other parties to comply with his desire by this method, but sometimes one dies by such fasting. These acts are not approved by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and He says that those who engage in them are demons.
